Employees in transportation, reception, and food service resoundingly agree that residents and fellow staff make University Village an enjoyable and enriching workplace. Peter in transportation remarked, “There is unique camaraderie amongst the staff. We learn about the residents and they in turn genuinely care about us. University Village is my extended family.”
Small courtesies matter, are noticed and encouraged. Management, staff and residents collaborate together to create an environment that is positive, supportive and nurturing. Latisha’s story follows in the footsteps of many long time staff at University Village.
Latisha began working in Food Service six years ago as a part of the wait staff. With pride and joy, she came to know the residents by name and knew their menu preferences. She learned several other Food Service positions before moving on to her current position. Now as a member of Pat’s team at the reception desk, she is encouraged to continue learning new skills. Latisha recently enrolled as a first semester student in the local community college. She was awarded a scholarship for tuition and books from the Resident Scholarship Committee. It is a community that embraces the belief that when you give, you receive.
The staff is actively involved in the Masterpiece Living initiative that is so much a part of the University Village culture. Fun, laughter and joy resonates when staff dress in theme for the month’s Wednesday Bistro or a staff presented special event for the residents. The residents honor staff by profiling a different employee in each issue of the Village Voice – a newsletter assembled by the residents.
The Masterpiece Living philosophy of engagement and fun resonates into all aspects of work and living at University Village. University Village has proved itself to be a great place to work!
