University Village’s 36 acres offer two natural habitat ponds – a large body of water behind the University Village’s East Wing and a second smaller one across the street between the Inn and the Villas. A pier, a bridge, and numerous benches offer quiet repose to observe the Florida water birds including the Great Blue Heron, Little Blue Heron, egrets, ibis and several species of ducks who waddle along the shores. The marsh grass and inlets offer quiet refuge and a place for the birds to forage in the shallow water for vegetation, fish or frogs.
A peaceful woodland walking trail is nestled behind the smaller pond. The entrances to the labyrinth of trails are barely visible from the bridge connecting the Inn and Villas. The paths offer numerous places to sit to meditate, listen to the songbirds, nature journal, write or draw.
Creation, maintenance and beautification of the trails is the passion of resident Warrend Frederick. For over ten years, Warrend has dedicated hours of his time to creating this little haven. Other residents have joined him and have adopted their own little section or corner. Some areas have a whimsical theme or a floral theme. Residents have donated statues, planters, and potted plants which line the paths.
Whether at dawn or dusk or sometime in between, the woodland walking trail is a perfect spot to enjoy the sights and sounds of Mother Nature. University Village is a picturesque property you will love calling home!
