Susie Monaco, a six month resident of University Village, will tell you, “This was the best move that I made for myself.” Her accolades for her new life are many:
“I feel so at home here.
I have not missed my house in Carrolwood at all.
The staff is excellent and so accommodating.
I love that I don’t have to cook dinner anymore or eat by myself.
It is almost like resort living full time!
I attend water aerobics with Lothar and really look forward to it – he makes it so much fun!
I attend the prayer group for my faith and can receive communion right here.
I have plants on my porch – orchids, a jade plant, and various herbs.
There are so many wonderful people here and they have gone out of their way to welcome me.
I really feel this is my new home. I am so happy and comfortable.”
Curiously, Susie’s daughter-in-law suggested that she consider retirement community living over three years ago. She replied to her son and daughter-in-law that she was “not ready yet” and that “I can still take care of myself, do everything, and take care of all of my personal and property responsibilities.”
Businessman and author, Philip Crosby says it this way, “Slowness to change usually means fear of the new.” When things are familiar there is a feeling of security. The thought of change can be unsettling and yet what lies around the corner can be that wonderful unexpected opportunity that “changes the tenor of our lives.” (Kathleen Norris – American novelist). Susie agrees – her life is better than she ever imagined!
Susie noted that each resident knows their move-in date just like their birthday. It is a celebration of a rewarding, joyful, and fulfilling chapter in each person’s life!
