Implementing Your Masterpiece Living Lifestyle

Happiness and health can be attained at any age. In fact Masterpiece Living expert, Dr. Roger Landry, tells us, “Since most of how we age is determined by the choices we make, it only requires us to make some good choices in order to improve our lives and age successfully.” Embracing Masterpiece Living provides growth opportunities in each dimension of wellness—physical, intellectual, spiritual, and social.

A University Village resident’s first step is to learn more about Masterpiece Living from Shana Garcia, the Masterpiece Living Coordinator. Scheduling the three reviews requires no more than a total of a couple hours to complete—several questionnaires can be done in the comfort of home or online.

Lifestyle Review: activities, interaction with others, beliefs,
    and life satisfaction
Health Review: self-rated health; developed and administered
    by the Mayo Clinic
Mobility Review: gait, balance, strength, and flexibility

The review results are confidential, and unique to each person. Residents receive written feedback which will help in setting personal goals in one’s quest to age more successfully and stay as independent as possible.

Shana is available for a one-on-one feedback session to help each resident understand the full meaning of the review results and to further guide the resident on his/her journey to becoming well in all areas of life. Whether it is physical, intellectual, social, or spiritual, each resident commits to their own growth and University Village is there to help as coach and cheerleader.

Masterpiece Living includes even more than University Village’s wide variety of activities. Chef Fred has designed menu selections that make food choices easy and help residents lose weight and maintain their ideal diet. Masterpiece symbols indicate healthy course options.

The Mayo Clinic provides online newsletter support for each resident enrolled. Articles sent are geared specifically for each resident’s health interests or risks. “The connection with the Mayo Clinic substantiates our commitment to a measurable improvement in our resident's quality of life,” noted Barry Larson, Marketing Director.

Residents are writing new chapters for the next phase of their lives and for aging in this country. Each life is a masterpiece—always growing and blossoming.

Dorothy Allan, University Village resident, explained, ““Masterpiece Living has made me aware of a bigger world with endless opportunities to grow . . . . Over the past two years, I have lost considerable weight and no longer suffer from chronic knee pain. I accomplished another major goal—to become active in music again. I now play and perform regularly with our group called the Village Notables!”
